LOS ROQUES Islands
Nov 2008
Los Roques is a group of nearly 30 shimmering, sandy islands about 160 km north Caracas.
You can only get there by small plain - it takes about 45 min from Caracas. You can also fly from Margarita Island.
Unlike other caribbean destinations on Los Roques there is no high-rise hotels, no mass tourism and no cruise ships.
The whole Archipelago was made a national park in 1972.
The majority of the islands is uninhabited except pelicans and can be visited by boats from Gran Roque.
These photos are taken at the most far island - CAYO AGUA.
The Gran Roque Island where all the posadas are located does not even have proper streets - its sand everywhere!!!
I personally find the place incredible; real, relaxing and not overcrowded.
Watching the sunset from La Gotera Art Cafe on the beach...
On Saturday there was Langosta festival where 18 posadas prepared langostas and were judged by 3 chefs from Caracas.
Believe it or not - Dona Magalys - the owner of the posada I stayed in WON the first place!
Playing around with my new camera.
Local children playing.
Some of the posadas inside. One on the right - Malibu.
